What is Passion Flower?

Passion Flower, also known as Passion Vine & Maracuja is a notorious perennial vine that is part of the “Passiflora” genus and “Passifloraceae” family. It’s native to South Eastern parts of the United States and South America, most predominantly in Texas, Florida, Brazil and Argentina.

It’s 10 cm wide with five petals and bears strong, blooming white and purple-blue scented flowers. Passion Flower can grow year-round in more tropical climates.

Passion Flower was given its name in the 16th century by Spanish missionaries who found that the flower was religiously symbolic of their faith. Each petal was representative of a biblical character.

They also discovered that they could use the leaves, stems and flowers for wellness practices, most commonly consumed through tea. Advancements in herbal supplements have made it more convenient to receive Passion Flower.
